PPR : 1

It is a contagious viral disease of small ruminants.

Symptoms
Respiratory distress, Pneumonia, oculo-nasal discharge
Increase body temperature up to 107° F
Depression with back bending
Deep brown diarrhoea with mucus and blood
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against PPR
Use high quality antibiotic
Use Hyper immune serum
Oral / intravenous saline may be used

Goat Pox : 2

It is a contagious viral disease of sheep and goat.

Symptoms
Pox lesion on mouth, oral cavity, udder, neck and around the rectum
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against goat pox

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) : 3

It is a viral disease of ruminant.

Symptoms

Pyrexia of ~104° F, profuse salivation, stamp their feet, and prefer to lie down
Vesicular development on the oral cavity and inter digital space

There is no specific treatment against FMD
Use high quality antibiotic
Use of sulphonamide power/ potash/ fitkari

The excreta of infected animal should be buried.


Contagious Ecthyma : 4

It is a viral disease of small ruminant.

Symptoms
The primary lesion develops at the mucocutaneous junction of the lips and around erupting incisor teeth and may extend to the mucosa of the buccal cavity
Wound in the interdigital space and lameness
Cauliflower like tumours formed visible in the facial mucosa and throat
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against viral disease
Use high quality antibiotic
Use of sulphonamide power/ potash/ fitkari
Use of methylene blue/crustal blue (2%)

Border disease : 5

It is a congenital viral infection of goat and sheep.

Symptoms
Premature birth and fetal death
Abnormal calf
Blackish/ brownish abnormal long hair on new born calf
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against viral disease

Enterotoxemia : 6

It is a bacterial disease of small ruminants.

Symptoms
Per-acute case: goat may die before clinical signs are seen
Acute case: Mucus and blood-tinged diarrhoea is common. In-coordination and paralysis of the anus
Chronic case : Severe diarrhoea and gradually weight loss
Treatment
Use hyper immune serum therapy
Use of antibiotic/sulphur drug and pain killer
Serum saline may be given. However, saline cannot be given when the temperature is high

Anthrax : 7

It is a bacterial disease of small ruminants.

Symptoms
Per-acute disease: may die before clinical signs are appeared
Fever, dyspnoea, trembling. Dark blood may discharge from the natural openings after death
Acute. Signs may include fever, chills, severe colic, anorexia, bloody diarrhoea and abortion
Treatment
Hyper immune serum (antiserum) may be given
Antibiotic may be given

Tetanus : 8

It is a bacterial disease of small ruminants.

Symptoms
Stiffness of muscles and lock jaw
The ears are erected and stop micturition
Goat is amazed at any sound
The temperature is normal on the first side, but at the end the temperature rises (107° F)
Treatment
Tetanus antitoxin and adjuvant treatment should be given
Tetanus toxoid should be given before operation

Pneumonia : 9

Symptoms
Trembling, anorexia, Fever
Respiratory distress
Coughing and sudden death
Treatment
Antibiotic or sulphonamide may be given
Anti-histaminic drug should be given

Foot rot : 10

Symptoms
Between and around the toes an inflammatory wound is seen
The wound has a bad smell
Gradually affect the bones and joints and lameness in goat
Temperature elevated and anorexia
Treatment
Goat have to walk 1-2 times in a week for few weeks on foot through the foot bath (Foot bath made with 5% zinc sulphate or copper sulphate solution)
Antibiotics like penicillin, streptomycin or tetracycline should be used

Salmonellosis : 11

It is a bacterial disease.

Symptoms

Fever, bloody mucous and fowl diarrhoea
High fever (up to 1070F) and abortion
Lack of appetite and death within 24-48 hours of infection
Treatment
Antibiotics or sulphonamide should be used
Astringent should be used as adjuvant therapy for diarrhoea
To prevent dehydration, dextrose saline should be given in a sterile state

Gid disease : 12

Symptoms

The head rotates and the head is tilted to one side
Occasionally the goat stopped taking food and make shout
Goat can become blind and unconscious
The infected goats lost weight gradually
The bone on the head becomes thin and soft, which can be felt under pressure
Treatment
No specific treatment, but
The goats are healed when the cyst is removed from the head by operation

Parasitic infestation : 13

It is a parasitic disease caused by lice, tick and mites.

Symptoms

There is a dry or wet wound where the affected hair follicles fall
The skin becomes thick and itchy
The goat's infectious area causes a rash due to itching, causing wounds
Treatment
Ivermectin /vermic (1ml for 50 kg body weight, under skin) should be given
Parasitic medications should be taken once a month with malathion (1.5-5.2%) or diazinon (1.5-5.2%)
