Well-developed breeds adaptive to Bangladeshi climate should be
selected
Locally available popular dairy breeds are Red Chittagong cattle
(RCC),
Pabna Cows, Munshigonj cows and North Bengal Gray
Red Chittagong Cow (Chattogram and Chattogram hill
tracts)
Pabna Cows (Pabna and Sirajgonj))
Munshigonj ( Munshigonj and Manikgonj)
North Bengal Grey (Rajshahi and Rangpur)

Dairy farm can also be made of high yielding crossbred dairy
cows
Cows of enlarged body and udder size produces more milk
Milk production is associated with the age of cow and number of
parity
Cows usually give maximum milk during third to sixth parity
Milk production increases steadily since first parity and reaches
at peak
after fifth parity
Generally milk production start to decrease compared to previous
from sixth
parity and continues up to tenth parity
Diseased cow should not select to start a farm
The exact age and health status, number of parity, physical
condition,
previous lactation record (ancestral history if possible) etc. should be checked during the
collection
of a cow
Physical Characteristics of high yielding lactating cows:
Stout legs and enough space between two legs
Wide chest and spacious ribs
Enlarged udder with visible milk vein tightly attached with
body
Incase of buffalo, River buffalo of indigenous type produce maximum
milk
In addition, Murrah or Niliravi cross buffalo and Gujrati cross
cows
produce more milk
