Phenotypic Characteristics of River and Swamp Buffalo:
Swamp Buffalo:
Body coat is light to dark grey or slate black in colour. Sometime it may be white too.
Horns are wide,long and semi-circular, turns to the end of the body
Small and compact body
Back of the body is more meaty and abdomen is large
Face short, flat forehead, clear eyes, wide muzzle with medium tail
River Buffalo:
Coat colour is usually black
Horns are medium in size, curving inward
Large skeletal structure
Body is triangular in shape
Dual purpose animal
Produce more meat and milk
