Healthy baby chick must be collected. Sign of healthy chicks are mentioned below-
The baby chick will be neat and clean, dry, and alert with right size and weight
Ideal body weight of indigenous day old chick will be 32-36 gram
The eyes will be transparent-bright where legs and toes will be straight
The part of the navel flap will be completely dry and there will be no abscess on the body
The neck region of day old chick will be darker than other body parts
Things that need to be confirmed before collecting baby chicks from a government institution or any other organization or farm
Whether the survival rate of chick is above 95% or not
Parental production record/ history of chicks
Whether the chick’s parents were within FCR 2-3, that is, they could produce 2-3 kg of meat by eating 1 kg of food
Points to be Considered During Chick Transportation:
It is best to transport the chicks during the cold part of day, i.e either in the morning or at night
The vehicle used for chick transportation must be clean and germ-free
It is better to have lower transport distance, use a vehicle that can control the temperature (21 - 24 ° C) when the distance is high
