Ranikhet : 1

It is a contagious viral disease of poultry. Chicken of any ages are susceptible to this disease.

Symptoms
Drowsiness with close eye and paralyzed the wing
Respiratory and digestive tract may be paralyzed
Dehydration and lameness
The rectum becomes inflamed, so lime is trapped in the closet
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against viral disease
But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Electrolyte should be given in case of watery diarrhea
For good results water soluble vitamin should be used
Regular application of disinfectant and antiseptic surrounding the farms should ensure

Gumboro : 2

It is a contagious viral disease of poultry. Mainly young are more susceptible to this disease.

Symptoms
Ruffle feathers
Watery diarrhea
Increased body temperature
The infected chicken nails the head to the front
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against gumboro
At the time of this disease, there may be other diseases such as Coccidiosis. So any antibiotic can be given
A drug of sulfur group may also be given
Use Vinegar and sugar in water to increase food intake

Bird Flu/ Avian Influenza : 3

The symptoms of bird flu / avian influenza disease depend on the severity of the virus, the species, and the age of the bird. Symptoms may vary, even for environmental reasons.

Symptoms

Sudden death without showing any symptoms
Reddish and yellowish colour of wattle and combs with pin point hemorrhage
The head may swell and the water may freeze
Bloodstains can be found in the featherless parts of the infected chicken (eg, legs)
Excessive water intake can be observed
In the case of layer chickens, first lay the soft-shelled eggs, and then stop laying eggs
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against Bird Flu/ Avian Influenza. But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Preventive measures need to be taken to ensure biosecurity / biological safety of the farm

Fowl Pox : 4

It is a contagious viral disease of poultry. Mainly chicks are more susceptible and mortality rate is higher in this disease.

Symptoms
Generally nodules found on fatherless parts of body
Nodules also found in the combs, eyes, lips and intestinal mucous
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against fowl pox
But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Affected areas should be cleaned with potash/ Alum
Farm and all equipment should be clean with disinfectant

Marek’s disease : 5

It is a contagious viral disease of poultry. It is also known as fowl paralysis.

Symptoms
Chickens are seen as weak
If one of the legs is paralyzed, then other leg may be affected
If the paralysis is paralyzed, the chicken lies down
When the neck is relaxed, the head is bent to one side
Hanging of wing
Epilepsy
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against fowl pox
But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Enrofloxacine and toxin binder may be used in drinking water

Lymphoid Leukosis : 6

It is a carcinogenic viral disease of poultry. The virus enters into the liver cell and causes tumors. As a result liver becomes enlarge.

Symptoms
Feathers break down and become dirty. The wattle become bluish
Diarrhea
As the liver becomes larger, the palate is seen larger
Prostration of both legs
Reduce egg production
Some time, wing and leg bone become abnormal with bend
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against any viral disease
But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Enrofloxacine and toxin binder may be used in drinking water

Infectious Lyringotracheititis : 7

It is a disease of poultry.

Symptoms
Hemorrhage on trachea, mucoid secretion as a result respiratory distress
Ocular and nasal secretion
Gasping and panting
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against any viral disease. But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Erythromycin/ CTC/ oxytratcycline may be used in drinking water

Infected dead chickens need to be burnt or buried in deep ground soil. The shed will be used again for poultry rearing after 3 weeks of disinfection.


Mycoplsamosis : 8

In case of mycoplasmosis, the egg production reduce 10-20 % and meat producing chicken lose 10-20 % of their weight.

Symptoms
Clear Gurgle sound understood clearly at night
Gasping and panting
Swelling of mouth and weight loss
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against any viral disease. But antibiotic may be used for prevention of secondary bacterial infection
Tylocin tartrete (20%) may be used in drinking water

Aspergillosis / Brooder pneumonia : 9

It is a fungal disease of poultry. Mainly chicken are more subsection during brooding stage.

Symptoms
Lack of appetite, thrust, fever and respiratory distress
Reduced weight gain and weakness of chicks
Gasping and panting
Gurgling sound during perspiration
Swollen of eyelids
In sever cage, chicks can die without any symptoms
Treatment
There is no specific treatment against any viral disease. But antifungal may be used for prevention
Copper sulphate may be used in drinking water

Fowl Cholera : 10

It is an acute contagious bacterial disease of poultry.

Symptoms
Swollen of wattle and combs
Weakness
Greenish/ yellowish diarrhea
Salivation
Depression
Dropping of egg production
Treatment
There is a specific treatment against bacterial disease
Any drugs of Sulphar groups can be used in case of Fowl cholera
In hot temperature, vitamin C and lemon juice may be use in drinking water

Fowl Typhoid: 11

It is an acute contagious bacterial disease of poultry.

Symptoms

Whitish feces can observed around the rectum
Greenish/ yellowish color diarrhea
Head and comb become discolored and reduced in size
In sever cage, sudden death may occur
Treatment
There is a specific treatment against bacterial disease
Cotrimaxixal, cloramphenicol and penicillin group drugs are quite effective in this disease
The use of vitamins and minerals as an adjunct therapy helps to recover faster

Stop hatching from infected poultry.


Bloody diarrhoea : 12

It is a protozoan disease of poultry. Usually chicken of below 2 month of age are more susceptible to this disease. It is also known as coccidiosis.

Symptoms

Affected chicks are kept together with depression
Bloody diarrhea
Ruffled feathers
Treatment
Drugs of Sulphonamide groups may be used for this disease
A certain dose of coccidiostat may be provided before the attack

Avian Gout : 13

Symptoms

The whitish material around the rectum are seen
Physical weakness of infected chickens is seen
Affected chicks showed depression and greenish diarrhea may occur
Weakness and ruffled feather and wet the vent region
Chronic respiratory problems include bronchitis, scalp, ear lobes, etc
Treatment
In the initial condition, plenty of water and water containers should be kept
The use of alupurinol as a dose of 20-40 mg (1 gram in 1 liter) per kg of body weight reduces uric acid levels
Use of liquid toxin binders (such as Two plus, Toxynil plus) and liver tonic can be beneficial

Caution
Annual check-ups at breeder farms and hatcheries to determine the level of uric acid in the blood of chickens
Do not use high sodium bicarbonate with food (not more than 2 kg per ton of food)
