Site selection:
Farm should be at elevated and open area and safe and distant place from other farm and localities where there is sufficient light-air facilities
There should have good transportation system and travelling road
No pond or muddy drain is allowed within 100 meter distance of farm
No poultry selling center or processing unit is allowed within half kilometer of the farm
Farm should have access to pure water and uninterrupted electricity system
Construction of farm structures:

Commercial poultry farms can be constructed in two ways for meat production-

Macha system
Floor system

The cage system is the best for egg production. However, the floor or slate system can also be adapted

Macha System:
Bird house will be from east to west facing
House should be constructed considering that each bird require 1 square meter space
The length and width of the room will be at 4:1 ratio i.e. the width for every 4 feet length will be 1 feet
Thus, the length of the house built for 100 chicken will be 20 feet and the width will be 5 feet (1000 square feet), while for 1000 chicken the length will be 60 feet and the width will be 15 feet
Height of the slate from floor will be 3-4 feet whereas the height of roof line from slate will be 5 feet
Slate made of bamboo or wood, as well as scattered bamboo or wood, should be spaced less than an inch apart
The fence of the house may be made of bamboo clamp, wicker or wire knitting net (less than 1*1 square inch)
60% height of wall (3ft) will be covered by wire knitting net made spacious fence
Fence should be covered by gunny sack during winter season
Roof line of the house may be made of bamboo, tin, polythene or any kind of suitable material but thermal insulation system should be ensured underneath the shed.

Floor Rearing System:
This method involves building concrete floor house or house made by spreading any hard material on the ground
Floor should be covered with rice husk, wood powder or ash at 3-8 inches thick
Germ free litter i.e rice husk, wood shaver or fly ash should be used on the floor
To disinfect the litter, spray with formalin mixture (9 liters of water and 1 liter formalin) and wrap with polythene and leave it for 2-3 days
After 2-3 days, the litter should be opened in the fresh air and stir well to remove any kind of gaseous odor
Copper mixed water can be sprayed on liters 1-2 times per week
For every 10 sq ft area you have to pay 5 kg liter
All other arrangements will be the same as in the Macha system

Cage System:
In this system, birds are reared by buying or making cages of different sizes that fit the length of the room
Inside the cage, each bird is kept in a separate pan of 60-70 square inches
The cages can be made either vertically or in alignment. One row can be made up of several rows or multi storeyed cage cage can be made in the same way. Or a cage can also be made keeping structure between two stairs on both side
Cages has to be prepared with a slope, so that when birds laid eggs it comes out infront of the cage
For feed and water supply, tube feeders and nipple drinkers should be provided in front of the Cage

N.B.

In floor system rearing birds are at risk of getting infected easily

Litter should always be kept dry and clean, no old, wet or assembled litter can be used in any condition

Incase of contagious disease the entire litter should be replaced

If there are two houses as well, then there should be a space of 25-30 feet between the two house
